Project: Jubilee Entrances
Event: Jubilee Family Festival
Location: Hyde Park. London
Date: June 2012
The entrances were built in 8x4' sections and transported to site, fitted together with a scaffold frame clamped to the back of the crown sections. Sections were attached to the truss framework, one at a time, with the crowns overlapping the walls, giving the piece some depth. The whole process was then repeated at the South entrance, giving the festival 7 entrances in the shape of giant 7m tall crowns.
Excerpts from the lengthy design process involved in the proposal for the festival. An initial model was created to aid communication and visualise the structure more easily. The 3D CAD drawings confirmed that everything fitted correctly, and provided the structural engineers with details of the proposal on which they based their report.
